Mona’s Queen Memorial Trophy

In recognition of their involvement in the dedication of the TSS Mona’s Queen III Anchor Memorial at Kallow Point on Tuesday 29th May, the Board of Port St Mary Commissioners has provided Scoill Phurt le Moirrey with The Mona’s Queen Memorial Trophy.

Chair of Port St Mary Commissioners, Mrs Bernadette McCabe said, “After the success of the dedication ceremony and the excellent performance of the Scoill Phurt le Moirrey Choir, the Board wanted to provide the school with a token of their appreciation. Having discussed how best this could be achieved, the staff at Scoill Phurt le Moirrey suggested The Mona’s Queen Memorial Trophy, which the Board thought was a fantastic idea.”

Mrs Sue Mowle, Headteacher of Scoill Phurt le Moirrey commented, “The staff felt that after the school’s involvement in the dedication of the Mona’s Queen anchor, which is such a rich and important part of the Island’s maritime history, a trophy named after something so strongly linked with the dedication and determination of those involved with the evacuation of Dunkirk, and of course those involved in raising and bringing the anchor from Mona’s Queen back to the Isle of Man, which will be awarded annually to a child who has demonstrated outstanding dedication and determination would be very befitting.”

Mrs Bernadette McCabe concluded, “The Mona’s Queen Memorial Trophy will be a great accolade for any child who wins it.”
